Pre-cautions to take before meeting online acquaintances in person
Republican Atheists recommends to take pre-caution when meeting people from the internet in person. Always keep in mind that the person you are communicating with online may possibly be using a false identity and that it is important to investigate the person as much as possible before meeting.
We recommend to take these pre-cautions before meeting a person from the internet..
- Investigate the person’s social media profile. Check the person’s photos for consistency, analyze the themes of their posts, etc. to evaluate who they are and what they prioritize.
- Ask the person to explain their background in an online conversation.
- Do a pre-phone call before meeting. Make sure everything on their profile and what they’ve told you checks out.
- Meet at a commercial location where there are plenty of people around.
- Bring a friend with you.
Being cautious while meeting people off the web is not a new topic, but it can still be easy for people to let their guard down. We hope you continue meeting people and communication. Be cautious!
