Introducing Republican Atheists’ Representative of Veteran Affairs Darrel Scott

Republican Atheists is excited to introduce Darrel Scott, our first Representative of Veteran Affairs. Scott also currently serves as a Republican Atheists Correspondent for the state of Texas.

Scott’s military career was spent as an avionics maintenance technician. He worked on aircraft radios, radar and navigation systems. He spent six years at Altus AFB, Oklahoma, three years at Spangdalhem AB, Germany, four years at Grissom AFB, Indiana, four at Zweibrucken AB, Germany and last at Bergstrom AFB, Texas, now the airport in Austin, Texas. His total time in active service was 20 years, three days, nine hours and a few minutes, based on his calculations.

Currently an active member of his local American Legion in Texas, Scott takes part in many of the events at the post.

“Going to the Legion post and spending time with other veterans is like a family reunion. These people are my extended family. My brothers and sisters in arms,” Scott said.

Both Scott and his oldest brother are in the VA health system, otherwise known as the Veterans Health Administration. His brother was medically discharged from the Marines in 1975. Scott entered in 2011 because of hearing loss related to his years on the flight line while in the Air Force in order to get hearing aides which he later learned are cost free to veterans, saving over $5,000.00 on a pair.

Anyone with a question regarding the VA and the benefits for veterans can contact Scott. He is happy to answer questions or find a resource in your area that can help you. Email Republican Atheists at info[at]republicanatheists.com.
