New video showcases responses Republican Atheists frequently receives from left leaning atheists
Republican Atheists published a video sharing responses from followers of popular blog Friendly Atheist to recent article “‘Republican Atheists’ Group Doubles Down on Its Support for Donald Trump” published on March 3, 2018.
The point of the video is to showcase the hostile and closed minded responses Republican Atheists often receives from American atheists. The responses tend to not express any effort to gain understanding but rather are direct assumptions, insults and ad hominem attacks.
Many atheist Republicans and atheist conservatives have increasingly been leaving online and in-person atheist groups because it has become nearly impossible to discuss politics with left leaning atheists. Atheist conservatives and atheist Republicans will often be shout down or even kicked out of groups, which has led them to start creating their own groups, such as Facebook groups Conservative Atheists (one has over 1,000 members), Atheists for Trump and Republican Atheists.
Republican Atheists encourages the US atheist community to have a more open minded and tolerant approach to conversation involving politics. Everyone has different background and priorities, hence it is important that we try to understand why a person thinks a certain way instead of resulting to outright insults.

I have two observations for those who think that being atheist/agnostic/secular/or religiously liberal requires one to be politically leftist or liberal .
(1) Character, historically, has been a principal concept emphasized by religious liberals (refinement of one’s character, salvation by character, etc). Today, however, modern secular liberalism is all about identity (sex, race, economic status, immigrant status, etc.) I hear virtually NOTHING from modern secular liberals about character.
(2) Religious liberals , such as the Unitarians, have historically rejected the concept of ancestral or inherited guilt (Original Sin). Modern secular liberals, however, DO believe in a vague, nebulous concept of inherited guilt -particularly if you happen to be white, male, and an American.
I would like to see someone from the “politically correct” secular liberal crowd explain this to us — especially if they believe that being religiously liberal or secular requires one to be politically liberal.
