While we will not publish the entire article that was written, we will publish Poulson’s public statement, which can be read below.
February 15, 2021
Public statement from the Kent County Republican Central Committee in response to the U.S.
Senate impeachment outcome on February 13th, 2021:
The second impeachment trial against former President Donald J. Trump ended with his
predictable acquittal. This means we can conclude that Nancy Pelosi becomes the first Speaker
in U.S. history to launch two failed political impeachments.
The second impeachment was an unconstitutional attempt to convict a private citizen. Chief
Justice Roberts not presiding over the impeachment trial strongly supports the argument that
under the Constitution there is no authority to impeach and try a private citizen, including a
former President.
The goal of the show trial was to silence Trump and his supporters by using a violent riot at the
Capitol that the Republican Party has already universally denounced and then escalate it to the
equivalent of “September 11th”. They have used the flimsiest of arguments to accuse Trump of
organizing the riot himself when the facts just don’t match.
The Democrats made it clear again that they are not going to stop until they have made sure
that Trump and the MAGA movement have been completely destroyed and purged. This flies in
the face of President Biden’s call for unity.

Vice Chair
Kent County Republican Central Committee
