Republican Atheists’ President Visited the General Patton Memorial Museum
Republican Atheists’ President Lauren Ell visited the General Patton Memorial Museum in Chiriaco Summit, CA on May 2, 2019.
This was Ell’s second time visiting the museum that is dedicated to General Patton, one of the most respected generals in the United States Army. Patton played an important role in developing military equipment and leading US troops to victory during World War II.
The museum is located in the hot arid desert in Southern California. It features an indoor section that contains information about General Patton, World War II, and how the US Army operated. There is also an extensive collection of historical items relating to various wars. Outside of the museum is a military equipment section that showcases tanks, trucks, jeeps and other vehicles.
The museum is associated with the desert region where it is located because it is within the boundary of Desert Training Center, a project that was in operation from April 1942 to April 1944 to train soldiers for battle in harsh desert climates. Patton served as Desert Training Center’s first Commanding General for a short period, until July 1942. He said farewell to his troops after he was called to plan Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa.
The General Patton Memorial Museum is a great location that is open year round. The museum also features a speakers series. Chiriaco Summit, CA is a desolate area that is a half hour drive from the nearest populated city, but there is a gas station and cafe where water and food can be purchased.
