Republican Atheists’ President visited the Trump Tower in New York, New York
While recently visiting New York for the first time, I decided to visit the Trump Tower during the evening of July 21, 2018.
The tower is very close to New York’s Central Park, the largest park in the city. The front of the tower appeared just like the pictures I had seen published in news stories – black marble walls with “TRUMP TOWER” in large bronze letters.
I had thought that the Trump Tower was a hotel where only booked guests were permitted to enter. However, I saw people entering and leaving the building frequently, so I decided to enter. There were police with rifles on both sides of the large glass doors who looked at the public walking by. After walking through the doors I went through a security check that entailed checking my purse on a conveyor belt. The security guards were friendly and smiled when I checked through.
To my surprise, the bottom floors of the building were stores and restaurants. I later learned that the building actually contains apartments, stores and offices that can be rented. It is also the headquarters for The Trump Organization and served as the headquarters for the Trump 2016 campaign. It is also the headquarters for the Trump 2020 campaign. Of course it is the site of Trump’s prized penthouse that has received critical attention.
The first thing I noticed upon entering the Trump Tower was a large beautiful wall made of pink marble that had water running down it. The wall could not be missed as it was three stories high. The bottom floor had a large eating area filled with tables and chairs for visitors who ate at the Trump Grill, featuring classic American cuisine. The main floor I was on contained a store for Ivanka Trump’s clothing line, as well as the Trump Bar. I made it just in time before the bar’s closing time to order a beer on tap and sit at a table . The building had a retro elegance similar to the style of Trump’s penthouse.
The second floor had a Starbucks, appearing as though it was in a mall. Other parts of the building featured Trump’s Ice Cream Parlor and Trump’s Store, which contains Trump merchandise, including his 2016 campaign merchandise. I was not able to investigate further since the facilities closed at earlier times.
While I was inside I noticed tourists, like myself, kept walking in looking around with wonder and taking photos. They were of all different backgrounds, young and old. They looked impressed and were happy to take photos with his campaign merchandise that was on display.
A couple blocks away was the Trump International Hotel and Tower, which had a traditional hotel lobby.
