Republican Atheists’ Facebook page was unpublished by Facebook
Republican Atheists’ Facebook page was abruptly unpublished by Facebook on January 20, 2020, with no warning or specific reason given. This was the first time Facebook ever interfered with the page.
Lauren Ell, Republican Atheists’ President, appealed Facebook’s decision on the same day. Over 72 hours have passed and Facebook has not responded to the appeal. The page still remains invisible to the public.
This is an important issue to draw attention to since this is censorship of an official organization. On a broader scope, the censorship of the page also diminishes the voice of outspoken atheist Republicans, and is impacting the political landscape in America.
Republican Atheists will be sending out a mass notice to media outlets, podcasters and bloggers regarding this censorship on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, if we do not hear from Facebook by then. We ask for your help by letting us know media outlets you think will take interest in this issue so we can contact them. Additionally, it would be great help to us for you to share this update with the public and to also contact media outlets as an individual who is interested in the censorship of Republican Atheists’ Facebook page. The more voices media outlets hear, the more likely they will draw attention to the topic.
For now Republican Atheists’ main social media page will be on the site Minds.com, which has a similar format to Facebook. Minds.com has become an increasingly popular social media site over the years as Facebook has continued censoring users. You are welcome to make a free account there at this link and to follow our page.
