Republican Atheists’ President visited the USS Midway Museum in San Diego, CA
Republican Atheists’ President Lauren Ell enjoyed visiting the popular USS Midway Museum on July 3, 2018 in San Diego, CA. This was Ell’s second time visiting the museum. The last time she visited was in 2004, the year it opened.
The USS Midway Museum is an aircraft carrier that opened on July 7, 2004. It has been the most popular naval warship museum in the United States since 2015. Over a million visitors visit the museum every year.
The USS Midway is the United States’ longest serving aircraft carrier during the 20th century, from 1945 to 1992. It most notably served in the Vietnam War and 1991’s Operation Desert Storm. It was the largest ship in the world until 1955.
The museum offers a self-guided audio tour that features stories from former Midway sailors. The tour guides visitors through the officers’ quarters, sleeping rooms, galley, bridge, post office, pilots’ ready rooms and more locations. There are even veterans throughout the ship who are happy to answer questions and give further insight about the ship and its history. Visitors have the opportunity to view vintage aircraft in the ship’s hangar and flight deck. A beautiful view of San Diego bay and downtown San Diego can also be seen from the flight deck.
The USS Midway Museum is a wonderful museum to learn about United States military history. An entire day is recommended while visiting. For more information about the USS Midway Museum, click here.
