Secular Coalition for America says hello to Republican Atheists

Debbie Allen, Executive Director of Secular Coalition for America (SCA), recently reached out to Republican Atheists to share a greeting with our base. SCA is an advocacy group based in Washington D.C. with the mission to “increase the visibility of and respect for nontheistic viewpoints in the United States and strengthen the secular character of our government as the best guarantee of freedom for all.” The organization was first launched in 2002.

Debbie was kind enough to invite Republican Atheists supporters to stop by SCA’s office in Washington D.C. if they happen to be in the area to learn more about communicating with committees and politicians, and to generally learn more about the D.C. area if they are unfamiliar with it. So if you are ever in D.C., you are welcome to visit SCA, currently located at 1012 14th St. NW #205, Washington, DC 20005.

Here is an introduction message Debbie provided to connect with Republican Atheists’ support base…

Greetings from the Secular Coalition for America (SCA). As fellow secularists, we wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves to Republican Atheists, and share a little bit about who we are and what we do, as well as express how integral your organization is to achieving our shared goals.

In short, the Secular Coalition for America advocates for religious freedom, as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and works to bring respect and visibility to nontheists from all demographic categories, and political affiliations.  Representing 19 national secular organizations, hundreds of local secular communities, and working with our allies in the faith community, we combine the power of grassroots activism with professional lobbying to make an impact on the laws and policies that govern separation of religion and government — or the improper encroachment of either on the other.

Our member organizations are composed of like-minded groups that cover almost every demographic, and act as a strong unified voice when it comes to the issue of religion / government separation.

Republican Atheists has a unique voice that allows a different approach and tact, when lobbying Capitol Hill on our shared values. Your potential to gain the attention of members from the right side of the aisle, who might be skeptical of another atheist group is highly valuable, and often at the forefront of the issue at hand.

The coalition was formed because we know that together we are stronger. Since the forming of the coalition in 2002, we have become a strong and powerful voice in Washington on behalf of all atheists across the nation. Our ability to directly lobby Washington on behalf of non-theists will only be further enhanced by the addition of atheists who identify as Republicans, like yourself.

If you are ever planning to come to DC, please consider having us arrange a meeting with your legislators. Our lobbyist Casey Brinck will coordinate your appointment on Capitol Hill, and is happy to accompany you to your meetings, as well as assist with any materials you may need.
