Republican Atheists’ Georgia Correspondent announced published book

Republican Atheists’ Georgia Correspondent, Chris Jansen, recently announced he has published a book titled We Can Be Heroes: A Rehab Memoir. The book is about Jansen’s experience of overcoming drug addiction.

Part of the book’s description says, “We Can Be Heroes is for anyone who is lost. The message is simple: not only can we be the heroes of our lives–it’s the one thing we must do. If we answer the call we’ve already succeeded. If we turn away, many will suffer.”

Chris Jansen has been published in Barren Magazine, The Blotter, Cicatrix, Levitate Magazine, Poetry Breakfast, Talking Soup, RKVRY Quarterly, Anti-Heroin Chic. A selection from this book won first prize for non-fiction from Fairfield University’s Causeway Lit.

Jansen grew up in a swamp called Albany, Georgia and currently lives in Athens, Georgia. He obtained a degree in Molecular Biology from University of Georgia. Up until his teenage years he was Southern Baptist, but when he discovered the work of Joseph Campbell it became obvious to him that Christianity was just an inflection of the universal stories and archetypes. He became a fire-breathing atheist activist after that, but has since mellowed into a live-and-let-live atheist who is still very fond of Christian mythology. Occasionally he felt totally alone as an atheist AND conservative/Republican, and has noted he is grateful for Republican Atheists and for the work of Robert M. Price, one of his great heroes.

Republican Atheists congratulates Chris on his book being published and looks forward to learning more about his future endeavors.
